Landscaping Tips?
How to Choose A Landscape Architect - New Jersey

My home in Plano, TX faces south. I have a large area to work with and would like to have a cheap and low maintenance front (flowerbeds). I would like to do mainly shrubs and perennials. Heat and drought tolerant also very important.

Texas Bluebells, Black-Eyed-Susans, Mexican Petunias are some of my favorite in my drought-resistant borders. Ornamental grasses with their flower plumes are pretty, something like a Pampas grass... Boxwood shrubs are good too.

Landscaping Business Tips?
Royal Living Magazine - Volume Three

My friend and I are starting a landscaping business next summer and we were wondering what type of equipment we would need, nothing like lawnmowers and weed wackers but other stuff, and any tips would help, thanks.

If you are just maintaining landscapes, not installing them, then mentally walk your way through a typical...and untypical yard.

Of couse mower, edger, trimmer, but what about shrubs? Are you going to be shrub butchers and just use hedge clippers? Or are you going to do some sound horticultural work with proper pruning? Then you need loppers, hand pruners, pruning saws of various sizes. Sharpening stones, oil.

Rakes, shovels......pole pruners, buckets to carry stuff to the trailer and disposal, brooms, garbage sacks, tarps.

First aid kits. Safety goggles. Sunscreen, insect repellent, wasp spray (just in case you disturb a nest).

Sprinker repair? You need all the fittings and glues...pipe and emitters, nozzels you should also carry spares for your clients so you don't loose time running to the store.

Motor oil, spark plugs, extra drive belts, extra air filters.

Fertilizer spreaders. If you get into pest control (including weed control....at least in this state) you'll need a Pesticide Applicators License, insurance, and proper spray equipment, masks, proper gloves, mixing equipment.

Tips for landscaping garden cheaply and quickley?

I have a average back garden around 30 foot by 30 foot,I would like to landscape around the sides bottom part and two sides.

What plants would you advise for all season, just overall any tips i would want to do it myself thanks xxxx
Its sunny i live in the city liverpool, and would like it to look nice and maybe hide my fencing xxx

I agree with above, don't bother with grass and especially if you had planned on a tiny border garden around the perimeter. Anything less than a meter deep is too narrow and actually 2 meters is better.

I know cheap is the first rule, so scrounge around for plants. Garden clubs often have plant sales, car boot sales sometimes have plants, ask around when people are working their garden and have extra plants. The trees and shrubs you can purchase in smaller sizes.....they grow.

Paving or stone might be from construction sites with broken concrete, some people are willing to "sell" you their stone or gravel if you'll haul it away.

I'd create a nice terrace/patio or some type sitting area in the "middle" either of stone or pavers and then plant the rest small ornamental tree or two, moderate size shrubs, some evergreen some flowering deciduous, some small plants around the sitting area...herbs were a lovely idea, maybe a trellis/pergola marking the entry to the garden with a wonderful rose or clematis growing over the top, and maybe a nice small water feature beside the sitting area. By focusing your attention to the middle of your garden, you won't notice that back wall.

I recently moved to my nicely landscaped property located in Houston, TX, but the number of plants has grown, creating a fuller look including weeds. I like to keep it simple for better aeration and control of termites and roaches. So, I'd like to start removing plants to create air flow, but want to do it without altering the aesthetics of the lawn.

Thanks for your help.
