I am a professional watercolor artist from Malaysia with many years of experience and has won a number of awards. I specialize in landscapes, buildings and flowers. I earned a BA from Marquette University, Wisconsin in Advertising and pursued my fine art at Milwaukee Institute of Art,USA in 1997. I am also a professional wildlife photographer.
It is my dream to exhibit my watercolour paintings at one of New York's art gallery.
perhaps then you should set up a website showcasing your work and formally contact some of new york's art galleries, send them a formal request and direct them to your website.
then follow up later on and hope they're interested.
good luck to you.

I have been painting for 2 years using mixed medium, mainly landscapes and seascapes. I will be attending college in September to gain a certificate OCN 1 as I feel this may open up opportunites to display my work. Do you think it will help? Also do you know of any good sites where others can view my paintings?
I have been involved with the art world for a few years locally (canada) and I have found very few outlets for someone without a major degree/accreditations in fine art. The OCN 1 can't hurt, and it will give you a basis for qualifying yourself to prospective gallery owners. check out Deviantart which is a good site (link below) for showing off your work. Making your own site would be the only other great suggestion I would have for you on that front.
As for showing your work locally, there are a few things you can do.
1) approach local coffee shops, artsy places and ask them if you can hang a few originals on their walls. Most places will love the free decorations and you may even sell a piece or two (don't forget to put up tags saying your name, contact info etc).
2) Approach a local dealer. If they like your work, they may put it on display for sale. They will also ask for a percentage if they sell a piece.
3) approach local galleries. Sometimes they put on local shows, but this is rare. They may be able to steer you in the right direction however. Ask them about local artist co-ops and such. Co-op studios usually have a gallery attached and gives you a great place to work / learn more from other artists. (small fee usually required)
My partner is an established artist wanting to expand her market for her oil paintings of sea scapes and european architecture and landscapes. particulary Italy.
Get a book titled "how to market your art." there are several on market online and most are good.
I would first take several photos both digital and hard copy of each painting. Label the photos with title, artist, media, size unframed, date completed. Look up galleries in area you want to sell both yellow pages and on line. Mail inquiry with one or two photos and how to get in touch with you. The gallery owner will contact you if they sell your partner's type of art and are interested in representing a new artist.
If you are traveling to the area where the gallery is (or plan a trip to an area where there are several galleries) send a note advising that you will be in the area on a certain date and would like to make an appointment to show owner your work. Make as many appointments as you can so as to insure at least one taker. Remember to put together a professional portfolio, including an artist biography, resume, and have a cd to leave as well as copies of photos to leave. Have a few original paintings with you also - 4-6. Look at all the galleries before youdecide on one.
Ask for a contract before leaving paintings with the gallery. They usually take 40-50% of the final selling price as a commission. Make sure they pay you during the month following the sale. Ask if they will be keeping a list of the buyers for your records or if they maintain a history for each of the artists they represent. good luck.
It advertises one person's paintings and murals. She also does hand lettering on all kinds of surfaces. She paints landscapes, such as mountains , hills and lakes, as well as lots of kids' rooms murals. She receives lots of compliments for her realistic clouds.
Think about what do you want to offer.
Also I invite you to see my plase, to give an idea

I really enjoy your landscaping gallery. You've done a great job in making it powerful and simple to use .
I looked at a few other galleries and none came close to the power and ease of use of Landscaping4Home.
Bottom line, I think it's a good bargain and recommend it before you take on a landscaping project."
