I know that a lot of the wood chips/mulching is color treated, some have a bug repellent on them too. They may also contain some sort of anti fungal spray.
How can I use something like the pretty reddish wood chips in my backyard landscaping without risking my dogs health??
When using wood chip mulch around your dogs you should only use non treated and non dyed material.
Get some from a tree service that does not dye or treat it.
The big dogs always help out with spring landscaping chores. Bess and Baxter are always willing to help aerate the mulch and make sure it is fluffy.
I know some chips/mulching may contain dyes, pesticides or antifungal treatments, does anyone know of a good "pretty" reddish colored chip that would be safe for me to use in my yard around my pugs. Some have suggested rocks...I don't want rocks......some the non colored "ugly" mulching and even that may still have something poisonous to pets. There must be something that is both pretty, inexpensive and yet safe for my dogs. I appreciate any input. Thanks for your time.
You can buy natural cedar. They don't treat it and it is naturally like a fungicide. But just so you know, untreated mulch loses it's pretty red color one year later. Even the treated stuff doesn't stay that nice pretty color. So keep that in mind.
I got my cedar from Home Depot. The company was Western something, the cedar came in the clear bag with red lettering and it was just under 4.00 a bag . . .

Our dogs keep digging around the foundation of our home, and we're afraid we are going to end up with a wet basement if they don't stop! I was thinking about some type of rock or somethign to put along the house foundation...any ideas?
Sprinkle ground cayene pepper around the areas they dig: no need to sprinkle a lot in any one area. This is harmless to the dog yet very unpleasant. Cayene pepper is cheap if you buy large canisters.
spread a couple of pine bark over the top.
I have tried "Critter Ridder" and moth balls. They are definitely not working. I just had my yard landscaped and the animals are ruining it.

Dog Spots | Landscaping With Dogs
Is your landscaping going to the dogs? Is your lawn riddled with "dog spots?" There's no reason that you can't have both dogs and attractive landscaping. But landscaping with dogs does present challenges that may require some compromises. The goal in this balancing act is to achieve an attractive, dog-friendly yard.
Effective landscaping with dogs begins with the recognition that a business-as-usual approach won't work. If your dogs are to be allowed to run about in your yard, you'll probably have to make adjustments to your landscaping. Landscaping with dogs primarily entails making concessions to the dogs, as you'll see from the strategies below. I do, however, offer one...
