What are the first few steps in starting my own landscape business in the state of New York? I know what I need to do in order to advertise and the equipment that I will need to do the work. I just need to know how to get my business registered and legal for the state and government. I was also curious about insurance. Will I need to have insurance on my business and employees?

Your Favorite Uninvented Gadget - Pogue's Posts Blog - NYTimes.com
In my column this week , I asked my Twitter followers if there were any gadgets (or features for gadgets) that hadn’t been developed that they’d like to see. Their responses (karaoke mode for music players, laptops with built-in projectors, a completely waterproof cellphone) were inspired and, in many cases, hilariously on-target.
Have a gadget in mind that doesn’t exist yet? Add your own idea in the comments below. Who knows—maybe you’ll get an e-mail from a wealthy investor who also wants a smartphone that can hold all your credit cards?
The NYT has been writing a lot about how incredibly dangerous it is to text while driving.
How’s about a bluetooth transmitter hooked up to your car’s GPS. When your phone is within range of the GPS (i.e., you’re in your car) it automatically disables the phone’s ringer. But since the GPS knows where you’re going and approximately how long it takes, it also changes your voice mail greeting or SMS auto-response to something like: “Hi - Sorry I can’t take your call right now, but I’m driving. If you want to try back later, I’ll be reaching my destination at approximately 3:45pm”. As soon as you leave your car, the phone’s ringer automatically turns back on and the voicemail/SMS reverts back to their original mode.

Gail Collins: David. So. About President Obama’s health care speech …
In our last conversation , you made so many important policy points that I was inspired to spend part of Labor Day weekend reading serious articles about how to fix the health care system. I made my husband read them too. So if you detect a little coolness next time you see him, don’t take it personally.
One thing is certain. Washington is now swimming with really attractive red herrings — ideas that Obama can’t propose and Congress won’t pass.
We’ve spent months now watching Congress struggling with this issue, and if we’ve learned anything it’s that these people will not pass a bill that takes anything away from their constituents. That’s too bad. Their constituents would be better off if their representatives were willing to take away a little in order to get a big reform.
