Landscaping Edger

Can I use the 2 in 1 Black & Decker edger/trencher as a landscaping edger?
October 2010 Yard Project #1

I thought the thing could be adjusted to cut at a 45 degree angle but the only adjustments are depth and whether or not you want to use this metal guide that follows along a concrete sidewalk. Will it be okay if it's not 45 degrees and it just digs a rut? I want to edge my mulched areas and make it look finished.

It won't provide the clean cut that you hope for. I use the Trench'n edge Trencher for bed edging. It cuts a 45 degree trench and then throws the material right back in the bed. You can check it out here - http://www.trenchnedge.com/

Can Anyone Give Me Info On How To Pick Out A Decent Electric Weed Eater/ Edger @ A Good Price?
Hound Dog Edge Hound Garden Edger, $10

We live in base housing and really need to fix up our yard, however, my husband and I are both landscaping/garden virgins. I don't know what makes a more expensive electric weed eater/edger better than a cheap one or the best place to buy one at a good price.
Also, we have already failed our yard inspection 3 times which is HORRIBLE so any tips or advice on how to keep a yard maintained well or even decorating/gardening tips would be great! Thanks! :)

If you're the wife, and will be stuck doing the weed-eatting (Like Me:) My best advice is to go to the store and find one that feels comfortable to you. Don't get one that is too heavy or awkward feeling for you. I have a Homelite, and it's really light weight, but does a great job...and was inexpensive. I like to mow before I do the trimming, that way you don't miss anything and have to go back over it. Whatever model you get, read the manual, and get familiar with re-stringing the line on the cutting head~I think they are all a pain in the butt when it comes to that...I never have used one that you can just "tap" and the line comes out smoothly, like it's suppose to~lol
It's not hard to "spruce-up" your yard and make it look nice. Just keeping it mowed and trimmed is a major improvement~but you can also plant some nice annuals in pots, if there aren't any flower beds available, and that will make it look even better! Just grab you a few pots, potting soil, and head to a garden center~then all that's left is the watering;)
Good Luck!!

i need to find out where to buy all the stone & pavers to landscape my backyard

Well if you have any home improvement stores like Lowe's or Home Depot, they will have everything you want or need...

My husband and I spend quite a bit of time in those stores and buy all our yard equipment and bird food, edgers, lawnmowers, tillers, fencing, bird baths, bird feeders, hoses, lights, bath accessories and I could go on and on...

They are really neat stores to go look around in and get ideas...

  • Trimmers and Edgers For The Lawn by Thomas Fryd 720-298-6397 - RS ...

When you care for your landscaping, you probably use your trimmer and edging tools as often as you use your lawn mower itself. Most lawn mowers don't get to everything and almost all lawns butt up to fences, walls, etc. and have sidewalks and patios they intermingle with, that the lawnmower can't get to. So trimmers and edgers take up the slack.

The question is, what kind should you use?

Traditional Edgers The traditional lawn edger is dual-bladed and has a long handle. Using it is not really hard work if the blades are sharp and it requires no power or gasoline as it's entirely hand-operated. For going around sidewalks and concrete edges, it works great, but it's limited to those areas alone. These are lightweight, durable, and easy to use tools. They do require some muscle power, but only moderate amounts.

Lawn Edgers | Landscaping Design Online

Lawn edgers are used in yard maintenance to cut away grass in hard to reach places such as driveways and sidewalks. Using a lawn edger makes a huge difference in the appearance of your yard. It is not hard to use the lawn edgers and also are not expensive to buy.

Lawn edgers are great for riding curbs, scroll cuts, bevels, and trims. Once you have one of the lawn edgers, you will wonder how you ever got along without it. These lawn edgers are run by briggs & stratton or honda engines making them both reliable and durable. Their lowest price commerical edger goes for about $490 (model 150) and the high end model 308-h sells for $850.

Lawn edgers are available in automatic or manual, as well as gas-powered or electric. The purpose of a lawn edger is to trim the lawn and clean the edges, creating a distinct separation between the pavement and the lawn. This simple act of lawn maintenance greatly improves the overall look of the home and yard, and gives it instant curb appeal.
