acceptance into the university of texas at austin?
The backyard

I am going to be a senior next year in high school and i really want to go to UT. I am only ranked about the top 40 in my class and its not a big class maybe 200. I dont think i did that well on my ACT i only got a 20. I do extracurricular stuff as well like sports. I would like to get into the university of texas landscape architecture program. do u really think i would be able to get in. I could also go to my community college for a year and then transfer. Do u think its possible.

20th percentile isn't exactly amazing, but it's not that bad. In practice most of the average high school class (about 85%) *could* get into a college somewhere. So I'd say you have a good chance of getting into UT, at which point you have a chance to make a showing as a good student.

Landscape architecture program is a graduate program anyway, which means you need to get your bachelor's first. You might want to check out their website, and consider visiting the open house on Sept. 17 for more information.

Best Photoshoot locations in Austin Texas?
flippin retire

Im a novice photographer and I'm neophyte here in Austin Texas.. Does anyone know of any places here in Austin that has great looking landscapes, beautiful colored tress during Fall for Photo shoot or family portrait background. thanks!

With the summer as dry as it was, many red oaks have already lost their leaves. Mt. Bonnell is good for shoots as is the new park close to the Long Center. Check the city's Park viewer and you may be able to find others.

Addtionally, you could go to the Umlauf Sculpure gardens.

What do you think is so great about Texas?

For me, I'd have to say the following: the people; sure, there are good and bad apples everywhere, but Texans from I've seen are some of the friendliest, most charitable people anywhere.

Among other things: Alamo, Riverwalk, El Mercado, State Capitol, Sixth Street in Austin, Town Lake, Austin, San Antonio, Fort Worth, Stockyards, Mesquite Rodeo, AmeriQuest Field, Texas Rangers baseball, Houston Astros baseball, Galveston, The Strand, Galveston Beach, corn nuggets, Texas-sized steaks, wildflowers, diverse landscapes (hills, desert, pine woods, plains, beaches, etc.,) wide open spaces, the state seal, the state flag...

If there are any other ones you want to add, please go ahead. And by the way, I'm not from Texas, I'm from Kentucky, but I'm saving up so I can get down there as fast as freakin' possible. (I'll have my Bachelor's degree in two years, then I can move down there.) Sure, I could move to California, Alaska, Michigan, Florida, Carolinas, Colorado, etc., but I like TX!

Texas is one of the largest wastes of resources in the world. From the obvious (oil, water) to the not-so-obvious (people, potential). It's a state rife with despotism, racism, and anti-social behaviours that are viewd by the power-elite as virtues.

Perhaps the best way to explain the idiocy and hypocrisy is in the modern-day slogan "Don't Mess With Texas." Too bad they didn't have that slogan back when Polk was president. They were a bunch of rich, diletante land-owners who knew how to use racism to inflame the Americvan politicians (it goes back a long way). We'd be saying, "¡No Interfiera Con Tejas!"

Most of the Texas chauvanists (especially two very prominent ones) deserve the label "All hat, no cattle."

Which state would be better for me? Arizona or Texas?

So right now I'm living back in Massachusetts. Due to circumstances I may be moving to Maine. Hopefully that's only temporary. I hate the snow. I've also lived in Utah and South Carolina. Eventually I'd like to settle down in Austin Texas or Phoenix Arizona. Both seem equally appealing. Austin because I'm a musician and Arizona due to the dry weather and desert landscape. The dry weather helps because I'm severely asthmatic.

So what do people think? I've worked mostly in call centers and a homeless shelter. For fun I like to do the music thing, play a ton of poker (and maybe find somewhere I could go to card school and work as a poker dealer?) work out and do some gaming.

I'm a really laid back person and I get along with mostly everyone.

So given all that, which do you think would be more suitable? Keep in mind I don't mind living a very quiet simple lifestyle. Cheaper housing would be ideal. Mobile home parks are fine. I'm not too picky. Thanks a ton in advance.

I don't think you could go wrong with either pick. Both places are great and I like them very much. Phoenix is a little too hot for me in the summer. And it's weird but with all the swimming pools that have been build over the years and the river coming into Phoenix it is actually much more humid than it used to be, say 30 years ago. I know several friends who have lived there since the early 70's that have told me about this and I have also noticed it.

Austin has a great climate and the hill country of Texas is absolutely gorgeous. I think I would pick Austin but would also consider Tucson instead of Phoenix. Tucson is a little cheaper to live in than Phoenix and smaller. As far as the gambling goes Tucson also has several Indian casinos (Phoenix doesn't) where you could play and perhaps eventually get a job dealing.

Good luck whatever you choose! Either one has to be far better than the northeast!!
