We have a cement patio & the pool will be just off that..then there is an arbor beyond that leading to a large pond w/dock. I HAD a picket fence on either side of the arbor, but have taken it down. So I need ideas on how to bring all areas together (especially around the pool) that will be LOW maintenance, 'natural & soft' looking!

Try to avoid long straight lines in you landscape. Slope or terrace the yard leading to the pond. Add flower or shrub beds that lead from the pool down to the pond to tie the two sides of the landscape together naturally. Make a path from the edge of the pool to the pond that is lined with cobble stones. You can have a fence around either, but don't let it end abruptly. Taper the ends and elongate the lines with shrub or flower beds. Add rocks to the landscape.

Try some or all of these suggestions. Sketch it out to see how it looks from a bird's eye view. Play around and have fun. You really could do just about anything

I am thinking of getting about a 300-400 dollar above ground pool. We live in the desert so we dont have grass. We have gravel, like landscaping gravel.
I thought an old comforter then a tarp but what are someother ideas?

Definitely remove the rocks and add sand. Don't you just love it when a $300-400 pool becomes a $700-1000. job? :)

I know I've probably turned off a lot of buyers (for future sale) but also may have attracted some. Anyone have any experience with this? I know when I was first looking at homes, if I found one I liked with a pool that would have been a plus. I have 2 kids and have always dreamt of having my own pool; especially after having lived in apartments for 8 years. I'm just wondering if an above ground pool is a nice attraction if done well with nice landscaping.

I would say yes, it does attract buyers. Actually, it may be a wiser decision than adding an in-ground pool because, as expensive as in-grounds are, they barely add any value to the resale of your home. I think that if it does have a nice deck with attractive landscaping, and it's attached to the house, it will be quite a strong selling point. I also think it would depend on where you live. If you reside in a warmer area like Florida or California, it's probably a big plus, but if you're in Wisconsin or Iowa or someplace where it snows a lot it may not be quite so appealing.

im looking to do landscaping around my ABOVE ground pool and hot tub . We don't have a deck built yet around pool but around hot tub we do . Im looking into what kind of plants i can use that wont die from chlorine or hurt my pool also what kinda mulch,stones is best to use we like red mulch .
ok i ALREADY no not to put tress ,fertilizer ect.. around my pool i have had it for 4 yrs .... i want to no what kind of FLOWERS that will NOT die from the chlorine ..

I have a pool and hot tub, even burn out won't kill your plants if used as the label says. I use the back wash to water Tomato's, Flowers and my lawn. Plants are higher organisms than one celled plants like Algae. You might kill a couple of cells on each plant, but there are millions of more cells still viable and growing on the plants. You can't tell the water has chlorine in it.

Straight chlorine, no water will definitely kill anything, plant or animal. So follow instructions on the package and your plants will be o.k.

I have Marigolds, Petunias and Pansies around my pool. The kids run through them all the time and they recover quickly and fill in any damage within a week.

Be careful of mulch. Many types of wood like cedar has fine slivers that get into your skin and hard to get out. Mulch also sticks to wet feet and gets into the pool and contributes to ph imbalance and algae growth.

I reccommend red or white gravel. It don't stick to feet and it don't have slivers.

P.S. you can't see broken glass under water, you will have to drain all the water, dry the bottom and vacum with a vaccum cleaner to get rid of the glass slivers. Rule #1. Plastic Only around the spa and pool. Keep some plastic beer mugs and wine glasses in the freezer for company. Just set frosted plastic glasses out so they are obligated to use them, don't ask or they will say they prefer to drink out of glass.
