I purchased ten citronella torches but am a bit puzzled about lighting them. I have the citronella fuel. The top of the torch has a black tube with a string and cap attached to it. Not exactly sure how to use this!! Any tips would be really helpful! Thanks!
Also, how long does a torch usually burn for??? Any other details or tips about torches will be really helpful.
Unscrew the attached cap. Underneath it will be another cap with a slot and a wick sticking out of the slot.
Unscrew the cap with the slot and put the citronella fuel in the canister
Replace the slotted cap and wick. Pull about an in of wick out of the top side of the slotted cap.
Replace the canister in the torch stand.
Light the wick.
Should burn 4 to 6 hours
I have a big garden which is badly overgrown. I want to completely clear it and start again. Could I use a blow torch to clear it?
In the UK you can buy or hire a Flamegun to clear weeds from a driveway without using chemicals - works on a bottle of propane.Quite effective, but have a hosepipe laid out and connected to the watertap just in case it gets away from you - seen it happen ! Mind you, with the weather we've been having these last few days, chance would be a fine thing!

Is this a total gnome revolt?
I've long thought these things were evil. You must bury them in a hole so deep they'll NEVER dig their way out.
I have a large garden area, 50' x 25' that is full of weeds. I have not planted there in years because of all the weeds that grow. I have put down tarps but believe me, that has not worked. I want to pour gasoline and it and TORCH IT!, it that a good idea?
Do not pour gasoline on your garden to burn the weeds.
That could possibly be illegal, dangerous & might poison the soil.
During the spring or summer, cut your weeds as close to ground level as possible. Compost all the cut weeds properly. Water the complete garden area thoroughly. Buy enough clear plastic tarping to cover the area. Make sure all the plastic edges are buried or held down by bricks. The sun will heat up the moist soil & will kill most weeds & weed seed after about a week of bright sunshine. Remove the plastic & pull/hoe any remaining weeds. Do any necessary ground preparation. Plant your garden using landscape fabric with compost holding the cloth down. A few weeds may pop up but they should be easy to pull up.
Keep your garden weeded on a weekly basis. That will keep any new weeds from becoming established o setting seed.
NO PROBLEMS!
But here is an alternative that looks like fun!

...Spice Up Your Tiki Torch Party with Pineapple Salsa

Well I've been a bit sluggish about posting to my blog (life does have a nasty habit of getting in the way sometimes) so I've decided to start including some ideas to help you host the perfect island-style tiki torch parties! And what, aside from the tiki torches , of course, makes Caribbean themed parties so fantastic? Food, music and friends!
Now, I can't help you in the friend department (though you're welcome to always consider me your pal as long as you don't need to borrow money) but I can help you in both the music and food departments. Today I want to introduce you to a fundamental food suggestion which is, keep it tropical. A tiki torch party with the regular ol' burgers, hotdogs and steak just isn't much of a tiki party. It's just a cook out.
So how can you liven up, spice up and ramp up your usual grillin' goodies to make them pop? Salsa, baby. And not just any ol' salsa. Tiki torch parties with a tropical feel need any of a variety of salsa recipes that include tropical fruit. Think mango, papya, pinapple and the like. To get you started off right, here's a pineapple salsa recipe that will really liven up a fish (particularly salmon) or turkey burger dinner and make it tiki torch appropriate!
