How far is it from Chicago to the Chicago Botanic Gardens in Glencoe?
orchids

I want to take the bike trail from Devon Ave in Chicago to The Botanic Gardens in Glencoe... But I want to know how far it is first, because while I like to bike, a die hard bicyclist I am not. So, even if you've only ever rode in a car, I'm just looking for a milage estimate...

15 miles sounds about right.

I biked that trail a couple of times, but it's been over 10 yrs since the last time. It's relatively flat. The only elevations are for the overpasses. Be aware that, early on, there are street-level crossings.

Otherwise, enjoy the ride.

Japanese Garden

And how long does it take from that station to the Botanic Gardens on foot?

The Garden is located within minutes of the Glencoe Metra train station, conveniently accessible by bus. Bus connections are also available from the Davis Street train station in Evanston.
Most trains running between Kenosha, Wisconsin, and Chicago stop at Glencoe or at Davis Street. For a schedule of trains, contact Metra Metropolitan Rail at (312) 322-6777 or www.metrarail.com.
From the Glencoe or Davis Street train station, buses run northbound on Green Bay Road and then west on Lake Cook Road to the Chicago Botanic Garden. Take a #213 bus marked "Northbrook Court." For more information, contact Pace Suburban Bus Service at (847) 836-7000 or www. pacebus.com.
The Braeside Metra train station is also a 1/2-mile walk west on Lake Cook Road to the Garden.

  • Chicago Botanic Garden Green Roof Garden - Chicago Garden

The goal of the 16,000 square-foot-rooftop evaluation garden is to try to broaden the selection of plants that can be grown on green roofs. Richard Hawke, the Garden's Plant Evaluation Manager, and his team selected plants that naturally grow in harsh environments-- low rain fall, shallow soil depth, hot and dry conditions-- for the trial gardens. In the coming years the Chicago Botanic Garden will share results of the evaluations through papers, but will also share information with home gardeners, through the Botanic Garden's blog, of the results.

8/28 Ending the Week at the Chicago Botanic Garden [Photos]

The end of a perfect week and I am sitting here wondering what to do with my weekend. The blessing and curse of living in Chicago is that there is so much to do and so little time. If I had time I would definitely revisit the Chicago Botanic Garden. My friend Mike mentioned that he took a ride up to the garden last weekend and it brought back memories of the 385 acres of horticultural splendor. I have a ton of pictures from my last flora, wine and cheese event up there so I am going to share them with you. Just so you can see the natural beauty that this place provides. If you have never been, by all means check it out.

I don’t remember the names of most of the flowers, maybe you can help me with that part. Have a great weekend and enjoy these images. Even better visit the Chicago Botanic Garden for yourself before winter hides the beauty of this attraction away. They are open evenings until nine and are located at 1000 Lake Cook Road, Glencoe, IL 60022. Give them a call and ask how you can support the Botanic Garden by making a donation (847) 835-5440. It’s worth it.
