The Big Blue (aquatics shop) Caerphilly..opinions? - Practical ...

Wasnt sure where to post this... Has any members on here been to this shop, "The Big Blue" located within Caerphilly Garden Centre, South Wales. A fairly new (open for about a year now) aquatics/fish store, if so, what are your opinions on it? on Fish, prices, selection etc.. as its my local store, and I havent really got much to compare it against. Nonetheless I will post my experience. Firstly, I'm new to fishkeeping myself, and don't have a whole lot of experience to draw from. Secondly, if Caerphilly is local to you then you also have the option of Maidenhead Aquatics at Pugh's Garden Centre in Morganstown, just down the road from Caerphilly. There's also World of Water at the Blooms garden centre in St. Mellons Cardiff, a new Maidenhead in Bridgend, and a store in Wenvoe. From personal experience, the staff at Big Blue have always been willing to help and advise, whether or not the advice is correct is a matter of opinion, the same can be said of all fish stores of course....

The RSPB: DON'T SCRAP OLD HABITS!

E-mail: dana.thomas@rspb.org.uk

Thousands of birds could go hungry in Welsh gardens this winter if bird tables and feeders are left empty.

This weekend, to mark its annual Feed the Birds Day (25 October), RSPB Cymru is issuing a plea asking people in Wales to remember the birds in their gardens with very simple measures.

Dana Thomas of RSPB Cymru, said: “Birds feast on natural foods such as berries, fallen fruits and insects during autumn. Supplies of these are not limitless however. Birds are increasingly reliant on us to provide food to get them through the cold winter nights.”

Feed the Birds Day events will take place around Wales over the weekend of October 25 / 26, with the chance to pick up useful tips and advice on how to care for garden birds.

Almost two-thirds of people in the UK feed birds in their gardens, with more than a third putting out seeds and nuts during the winter {1}. Garden favourites such as robins, blackbirds and finches have come to rely on feeders and tables as fast and easy food. Birds use most of their energy just surviving the cold nights. Our support is essential in making sure they stay alive.
