How big is a garden shed allowed to be? Does it depend on what its used for? Should planning application be sought?
It depends on the overall area of your property, you are allowed a certain percentage of your garden for a shed without planning as long as it is behind the building line and not interfering with your neighbours natural light/rights of way etc. Go to your local planning department for a booklet which will have all the relevant information for your area, it differs from place to place because of covenants on the land/parish councils/bylaws etc.

i am building an 8 by 12 garden shed, how can i make it soundproof
i am building a shed at the bottom of my garden and i want to put some music equipment in there and was just wondering if there is a cheap solution to soundproof
Use 4" by 6" wall studs and fill the area with very dense insulation. Use "soundproof " windows. Google Soundproof Windows". Cost more than regular but well worth it! They use two layers of glass bonded over a thick inner liner of vinyl. They are also pretty much burglar proof - very strong! The sound reduction is claimed to be 95%' The windows can be mounted inside of the walls or outside of the walls. If you buy a premanufactured kit use the windows that caome with the kit. Add the sound proof windows inside or outside of the windows that come with the kit. Mount the sindproof windows at least three inches away from the windows that come with the kit.
Use 4" by 6" roof rafters and use dense insulation, about 13". There are "sound resistant insulation - "noise control" available. These are not very thick, about two inches, but have a dense, lead-like substance in them. Check with your local car audio store if you can not find a supplier. The car audio store sells blankets of the stuff.
Do not forget to insulate under the floor with the sound proof material.
I assume you are running a torture chamber or band practice? Duh!
Also, if you use a Kit, pre manufactured kit, do not EVER buy one that does not have VERY wide eaves. These dumb little kits, no eaves, allow water to run down the sides and front and back of your shed and rot/mold the sides something terrible!

I'm selling my house and i have a 12foot by 6foot shed in my garden do i need building regulations
Nope doesn't meet the floor space required for planning permission however check with your local authority...
As a general guideline, if there is not already a building on a piece of land, then planning permission will be required to erect any new building on the site. If there is already a building and you wish either to extend it or erect another building on the same site then, in certain circumstances, planning permission may not be required. For example, you may be able to put up a low wall or fence, a garden shed or greenhouse, or a garage, without planning permission. You may also be able to extend your house, but the law relating to house extensions is fairly complex and there are limits on the size of extension allowed as "permitted development". When you ask at the Planning Office whether your proposed extension requires planning permission, they will need to know:
whether the house has already been extended;
the 'type' of house; whether it is a flat, terraced, semi-detached or detached.
(Note: extending a flat always requires planning permission);
the size of your garden;
the size of the extension and of any previous extensions;
its position in relation to the existing house and boundaries of any adjoining properties;
its distance from any garage.

i'm buying a dirtbike and i would like to buy a shed to put it in so that it wont take up space in the garage or unfinished part of the basement, all i want is a shed that will sit by the house that is like this one

i dont want to pay 500 dollars so i was wondering if anyone could give me some tips, or plans and maybe a cost estimate if i built it myself
Realtively easy actually. Do you have the ability to put it against the house/ a wall/ a fence? If so it need only be 3 sided.
The material should be exterior ply to begin; and 2x4 treated, as the support/frame/sub floor bracing; material. You can use the measurement examples in that shed you linked too; or your own judgement in what relates to the size of your bike; possible storage shelving; ability to actually get into the shed with the bike; etc.
You can decide the pitch of the roof; take your measurements and apply them to framing out the floor; the uprights; the roof framing; and put that all together. Then cut your facing stock to size and angles; allowing for the pitch of the roof in the framing and facing. Using the same material; or corrugated fiberglass screen room roof panels; aluminum panels; etc. If you choose a Ply roof you can run 90 pound felt and a square of shingles. OR for cost savings just use a tarp for the roof, and the back wall.
Having the shed against a wall will aid in supporting the structure if you can attache it to the wall. The door or doors (one at each end) can be the PLY and strap hinges.

I am putting up a garden shed in my garden. It is in flatpack form, ready to put together. I have concrete flags which i am going to put down 1st. I need to get it built a.s.a.p. The area where i'm putting the shed is grassed. Will i be able to just lay the flags without digging up the grass. (Theres not alot of soil, as the grass is just what has grown through the 'hardcore').
You need an extremely flat , well prepared surface otherwise your flags will sink into the grass and your shed will lean!
I know this becasue I made this mistake a few years ago and it cost me more than the shed did to have it put right.
Preperation of the ground is the most important thing.
I would get someone in to do it for me and I am not lazy, just not that strong!

Build A Garden Shed
Building your garden shed yourself is pretty exciting but not an easy venture. You need basic knowledge, skills and a pretty good idea what are you going to build and where are you going to place it.
If you are keen on building a shed yourself, here are several steps you need to take:
1. Choosing the right material for your shed.
Most sheds are made of wood, metal or plastic. The wooden sheds are very beautiful and give a nice feeling when you are inside. Metal sheds usually have longer life and often are more sustainable and cheaper. Unfortunately they rare look as good as the wooden sheds. Most expensive are the plastic sheds, but they are very easy to maintain and pretty sustainable.

How to Build a Garden Shed From Scratch Involves Using the Best ...
How to build a garden shed from scratch is to first find the best plans to go by in order to build a structure that is sturdy enough and strong enough to stand up to years of wear and tear. You’ll need blueprints or plans that are simple to follow, and yet pay close attention to detail. Structural soundness is important, so you won’t want to just use some itty-bitty little schematic from out of a magazine article on growing tomatoes with marigolds, but rather concrete and solid blueprints.
Using blueprints and plans is how to build a garden shed from scratch properly, but properly laid out plans are what’s needed. They must be clear and simple, but also be detailed in instruction. Materials lists should be precise, as should be all of the accurate measurements. Step by step presentation of phases of construction should be clearly laid out, and plainly put, while not neglecting to point out every needed detail.
In understanding how to build a garden shed from scratch, what should be well noted is that the plans should be of blueprint quality. After all, if you simply use any old schematic you might find, say in a wood working or gardening magazine, you could be dealing with a lot of ad-libbing and making things up as you go along in order to “fill in the blanks” so to speak. Blueprints and plans of very high quality can be found online however, usually in groups of hundreds, or even thousands at once.
