I need some backyard landscaping designs?
Helping Out

I need some backyard landscaping designs to get ideas for my own yard. Is there a website where I can find these? Or if you can send me the design or your backyard it would be appreciated. I live in arizona and have a fairly big backyard any ideas (ie. what plants, trees rocks, grass, stone walkways etc.) thanks

I was looking for something else and came acrossed a website that offers tips on finding good landscape software. The sidebar to the left on the site shows available software. Here it is. Hope it helps!

Backyard landscaping... how much will it cost to put in some concrete and grass?
Photo: Custom pool ideas, landscape designs and backyard concepts

I have a 25' X 66' backyard that I'll need to landscape. I think I'll want a concrete patio somewhere around 10' x 12' feet at the sliding glass door. A 1' stuccoed retaining wall about 2' from the back fence, and grass every where else. What do you think it will to do each a) if I have someone do it, and b) if I am patient and do it myself?

I would have the contractor do the cement work, you can do it yourself a little cheaper, but for a pad that size there are a lot of things that can go wrong. At least if the contractor screws it up, he is on the hook to fix it.

The grass part all depends on what type of grass, if you start from seed or go with sod. Seed is definately cheaper ( $30.00 to $100.00 depending on the type you use) sod is easier, and is fully grown when you buy it. However it will cost alot more than seed.

What would be some great sites for backyard landscaping ideas?

I have a smaller back yard but we have this Mound that goes up to the back brick wall and underneath the mound is all concrete so I can't dig into it. Its almost the full length of our backyard.

Any thoughts as to what to do with it?
It is concrete underneath but dirt on top.

There are quite a few sites that will give you good ideas for your backyard. Try:
http://www.myidealgarden.com/ or
http://www.the-landscape-design-site.com /backyardlandscaping.html
I found those two had great ideas, but there are a lot more if you want to check. Just Google 'backyard landscape designs' for a big list.

As far as your concrete problem goes, I have an idea, but it depends on where you live. If the conditions are ok, succulents would be a good choice, as the roots are shallow and they require very little care and are very easy to grow. Try this site and see what you think:

Backyard Landscaping Ideas & Custom Patio Design?

Looking for some inspirational landscaping ideas for the backyard.

A good backyard landscaping idea is to use evergreens. They will add a stately nature to the feel of your home while keeping it welcoming and warm. Many people like to use deciduous trees in the yard but a better idea is to use evergreens. Evergreens give the yard the structure and stability it needs for a good backyard landscaping idea and design.

Another good backyard landscaping idea is to use hardscape. This is the use of things like rocks, fences and walls. These can make your yard look very interesting during all of the seasons. You can have climbing plants on it in the summer & spring and trees around it that will look great in winter.

Anyone have any ideas on how to use seashells in backyard landscaping?

We have a lot of them, and I'd like to use them in a display somehow, but have no idea where to begin. I searched the internet and found ideas for displaying one or a few shells, or displaying in jars, but no ideas for using them in the yard.

If you have so many that they could be used as mulch for a whole planting bed, then I would consider using them. On the other hand, if you intend to place a few here and there as decorations I would simply advise against it. Littering a garden or planting bed with garden gnomes, inscribed stones, windsocks, and other such schlock is terribly tacky. Don't do that to your garden.

  • Buy Cheap

  • Reasons Why You Should Landscape Your Back Yard | Chillicious.com

You have to do as much as possible in today’s economy to make your house attractive to buyers and get it sold. There are more sellers than buyers in the market now, and, since this trend is likely to continue for a while, buyers can get away with being demanding and finicky.

You should not forget the backyard when you decide to sell your home. Having a Spartan design is acceptable if you keep the existing landscaping groomed properly. Your property includes the backyard, so how you maintain it demonstrates how you take care of the house itself. An eye-catching house and yard that is well cared for presents a good package.

Some people go overboard in their yards and make them very personal. For instance, having a nice Japanese garden in your back yard is great, but it might in fact hurt your ability to sell the house. This is because you would have to find someone who also loves Japanese gardens and is willing to take one on. If you have a nice house and a yard that is elaborate to your exact personal tastes, it will mean the new homeowners much share your passion for that type of yard.
