What is the best way to rid a garden of Asian Beetles?
BUDDHA

We have a very large garden in our home that includes various vegetables and perrenials. The Asian Beetles have been infesting the plants and are eating them. Are there any ways to be rid of them long-term, and, possibly with as few harsh chemicals as possible?

just buy some japanese beetle traps!

i am from western pa and we have a ton of asian beetles every summer and they can be a pain in the garden.

beetle bags are the most efficent and can be found at lowes or wal mart. no chemicals you have to deal with. put the metal stake in the ground and attatch the bag to the stake. the beetles flock to the bag because of its scent and be taken care of. i put these bags next to my peach tree and the beetles are gone within a day.

you can use spray on methods but if you have vegetables and such you are right...you may want to stay away from harsh chemicals. here is a link to a beetle trap...this beetle trap as shown on the link is the trap i buy every year at lowes and wal mart.

"Blooming" plants for an asian inspired garden? (Zone 8)?
lettuce

I need some ideas for plants for my asian inspired garden. I've found tons of ground coverings & grasses & things that don't produce blooms. Now I'm trying to find some plants with color that will hopefully attract butterflies, but need them to fit into the asian theme, & they need to be able to thrive in Zone 8. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
Forgot to mention, I am wanting flowering plants.

I always think of irises, wisteria, plum, chrysanthemums, rhododendrons, cherry blossoms, peonies and poppies first in connection with the gardens of China and Japan.

Some ideas:

Can I use nori seaweed (from the asian market) somehow to fertilize my garden?
rooftop garden

I am a first time gardener, I've heard of using a liqiud seaweed mix for fertilizer. I'm wondering if I blended some NOri seaweed from the market , could I use the mixture to fertilize my garden veggies?

Mulch it in with your soil and it will help retain water for your pants, and as it decays it will provide food for them...basicly yes

Give2Asia Giving Forum: Mango Tree Garden: Asian non-profit ...

My first adventure was at Kiva , an innovative, microfinance nonprofit based in the Mission neighborhood of San Francisco. Then, only a month ago, I started my internship on the business development team here at Give2Asia . Each day, I am exposed to noteworthy, mission-driven nonprofits all over Asia. The excitement of learning about and assisting in the process of strengthening these organizations is more rewarding and worthwhile than I ever imagined. It truly affords those of us in the developed world an opportunity to impact and create real, lasting change in some of the neediest pockets on the globe. One Asian organization, the Mango Tree Garden , just crossed my path by way of an article by Paul Hogan, founder of the Butterfly Peace Garden in Sri Lanka. The Mango Tree Garden is a nonprofit organization located in the Ang Snuol District of Cambodia which provides educational, cultural and spiritual community programs for children each Sunday. The central goal of the organization is to offer creative activities and a nurturing environment to allow children to overcome the trauma of war and adversity while inspiring hope for the future. Activities incorporating story-telling, drawing, painting, drama, singing and dancing, along with prayer and meditation, enrich and encourage balance in the lives of poor or orphaned children who have suffered from severe economic hardship, violence, discrimination, HIV or AIDS and poverty. With 40 to 50 children participating in the programs weekly, the Mango Tree Garden is a key component to rejuvenating Cambodian communities.
