This was handed down by my grandmother, who was wealthy and purchased it in NYC in the 1940's or 50's. It has beautiful scenery(ivory) of women and children in a garden and on a shore fishing, with further detail handpainted in gold. The top opens and has more detail, then another surface that also opens to both left and right. Front cabinets, side cabinets, and corner cabinets to hold stemware. The handles are carved into the wood, and scallop shell shaped..
I do live in a small, southern town. I wouldn't consider any of the local "appraisal" people here knowledgeable enough to evaluate this item accurately. Short of the "Antiques Roadshow", are there any sources you might recommend? Online, perhaps? I may be interested in selling this bar, as it does not fit into my decor.

You can also try sending a photograph to any of the major auction houses, Christies, Sothebys, Doyles, Bonhams...most have an Asian Arts division. They will evaluate it based on a possible consignment. You can submit your photo and info online.
hope I've helped a bit!

I am trying to find the name of the piece of antique furniture that looks like three barrow type chairs, all attched and placed in a curved line with two facing forward and one facing backward. Do you know the name? Please let me know if you do. I am trying to locate one in good condition, but don't know what to call it. As yahoo answers does not have a catagory for antiques, I have to put it in home and garden, so please don't write me and tell me it is in the wrong category, this is a close as it gets. Thanks for your help.
I've only seen 2 seaters. They are called courting benches and googling that brings up quite a few sites.

What decorative, creative, interesting or whimsical little something do you have in your yard that isn't a plant ? Something you put there yourself.
I have a statue of St Francis which is about 3 feet tall, and a black Asian carp that is about 1 1/2 feet long and stands about 8 inches tall.
A sandstone plaque of some sort of face on the fence and 4 musically tuned wind chimes and one bamboo "chatter" windchime.
This morning I found a ceramic rabbit by the carp. Two things come to mind, someone put it there as a nice surprise for me, or whoever stole my 6 hostas left it to taunt me. Its where the hostas were.
I have the usual garden/patio furniture, mine is faux wicker, and an antique garden bench
And apparently had a rooster with a sense of humour LMAO
This summer I need to get another birdbath, mine also went missing :-(
We arent allowed to use fire pits anymore damn environmentalists, it pollutes the air. They are trying to ban wood burning fireplaces too
I used to have half an acre and I was in heaven, even with the pool I had my own "park" ! Now I have a postage sized back yard, its enough for me, and the cat likes it.
Hostas,,, used to have a ceramic rabbit,,,

1. First, sand the furniture so that the paint will stick. Apply your first color, keeping in mind that this color will show the least out of the three.
2. Once it has dried, add the first wax layer. Apply the wax with a piece of cloth and cover the entire surface.
3. After the wax has set, apply another coat of paint in a different color than the first layer. Once it is dry, add another layer of painter's wax.
4. Next, gently brush the crackle medium onto the surface and allow it to dry. Paint over it with your final color. Once the paint is applied over the medium, it will instantly crackle. If it dries and you pass over it again, you will lose the crackle, so it's important to make sure you cover it completely and evenly in the first try.
5. Once the final layer of paint has dried, it's time to gently sand the surface. The harder you sand, the more layers you will remove, so be gentle. Ideally, the areas that should show the most layering are the corners and high points. The best technique is to pass over the entire painted surface gently and go a bit tougher on the corners and high points.
